Hello Beautiful Sparkle of Source,

This week I want to talk about grief, I have noticed a lot of animals and loved ones passing recently. The energy feels like a lot of us are moving through grief on many levels including myself.  But grief isn't only about someone physically leaving this world. We can grieve an old relationship, a home, a career, a friendship, a dream, a place we once lived, or even the person we used to be. Sometimes we know a change is right for us and still feel sadness about what we are leaving behind.

There is an unfamiliar expanded space that happens when we are becoming a higher version of ourselves. We recognize the old patterns when they show up, but we no longer want to react from them or allow them to run our lives. We respond differently. We make different decisions. We stop participating in dynamics that once felt normal but that weren't for our highest good. And while that growth can feel empowering, there can also be grief because an identity we have carried for years may no longer fit us. I know that to be very true for me. I am a Scorpio Moon which means I experience a death & rebirth every few seconds of my life lol and I do experience grief through everything I mentioned above.

The old version of us carried us through a lot. Don't dislike who you were either. Love each aspect of yourself because they got you to where you are right now on your beautiful path. The old you's helped you outgrow negative behaviors, relationships, beliefs, or circumstances that belonged to those old versions of you.

Last week, I experienced grief in a very deep way when my sweet black cat, Salem, crossed the rainbow bridge. It hit me pretty hard.

Salem showed me unconditional love. He was always by my side, even when I was grumpy. And every time I came home, Salem was there to greet me. There is something so beautiful about being loved by an animal who doesn't care what kind of day you've had or what mood you're in. They're just happy you're home.

Salem's beginning with our family was not an easy one.

When I lived on Kauai, I fed all the cats in our neighborhood. There were feral cats, neighborhood cats, my own cats, there sometimes were nine or ten cats that would show up to eat. Apparently, word got around the kitty network that my house was the place to go if you needed a meal.

And then Salem appeared. He was skinny, bloody, disoriented, and clearly had experienced some kind of trauma. He wouldn't let any of us touch him.

At the time, I was a single mom raising three children in a two-bedroom home, so my son's bed was actually in our living room. We always kept the sliding glass door open so our cats could come and go, and Salem found his safe place underneath my son's bed.

He stayed there for months. He would come out to eat and then disappear back underneath the bed. Little by little, he healed.

Eventually, I needed to get him neutered, which meant I somehow had to catch him. After chasing him around the house and finally getting him into a carrier, I took him to the veterinarian.

While he was under anesthesia, he died and had to be revived. The veterinarian told me she had never had that happen during a routine neutering.

That little guy had been through a lot.

And his story doesn't stop there. I'm not proud of this next part but before he fully became our beloved cat, in those months before the neutering when he was healing he was very feral and wouldn't let us touch him, and although he got along with the other cats, he was really mean to my soulmate cat, Zoro. I say soulmate cat because Zoro has been in my life since I was a kid. 5 different cat bodies but that is another story for another time. Salem's meanness got so bad that Zoro basically moved out into the field behind our house and started getting skinny and losing his fur. I couldn't let that continue, so after I had Salem neutered I took Salem to a feral cat colony across the highway in town that I already knew and helped feed. Other people cared for the colony too, and I promised Salem I would come back every night to visit him and bring him food, which I did for two weeks. Then I took my kids to stay at a cabin on the other side of Kauai for a few nights that happened to be VERY haunted, but that's a whole other story as well. We only stayed one night out of the 2 nights booked! When we returned home, it was dark, and a black cat came out from underneath our front stairs. We thought it was Zoro (Zoro is black too) but it was Salem! Somehow, he had found his way all the way back home from the feral cat colony. Going through many streets, neighborhoods and across the highway! He looked at us and meowed for the first time ever, and from that moment everything changed. He finally let us pet him, hold him, and love him, and he stopped being mean to Zoro. There was always still a little energy between the two of them, but Salem knew we were his family and stopped at nothing to make sure we were together always. He never left my side from that night forward.

He came back a new healed cat. He learned to trust us, and became a deeply loved member of our family. When we moved from Kauai to the mainland, Salem and Zoro came with us. Salem's life ended a little sooner than I thought it would at around 11 or 12 yo. we got a good 9 years with him though. I guess his soul had its own timing.

I experienced a very magical moment with Salem crossing the rainbow bridge.

On the morning Salem was preparing to cross, the song “Don't You (Forget About Me)” from The Breakfast Club suddenly popped into my head.

That song carries a lot of nostalgia for me. It takes me back to my younger days and the music and memories of that time in my life. The '90s were a really good time in my younger years, so when that song came into my head that morning, it brought this funny combination of memories, love, and emotion with it.

I looked at Salem and said, "really this song, is this our song?”

So I sang it to him.

I told him how much I loved him. I told him I was going to leave for a while so he could let go if he was holding onto his body because I was there grieving and crying. And before I left, I asked him to please visit me in my dreams and communicate with me through butterflies, birds, the wind, and whatever ways he could reach me.

I went out to run a few errands and walked into my local health food store.

And what song came on? Yep “Don't You (Forget About Me).” I felt Salem come gently and lovingly through my body, and I knew at that moment he had passed. And yes, I immediately started sobbing in the health food store. I quickly got the few things I needed and went next door, where my daughter works.

I told her, “He passed.”

She asked, “How do you know?”

And I said, “Because the song came on.” I explained the song to her.

What a magical and beautiful realm we live in.

For me, experiences like this remind me that our connection with those we love doesn't end when their physical body is no longer here. It changes form. We can still talk to them. We can ask them to visit us in dreams. We can ask for signs. We can pay attention to the butterflies, birds, songs, animals, wind, synchronicities, and those moments that speak directly to our hearts. And the work I do as an Intuitive Akashic Records Reader I can receive messages from loved ones that have passed. Including our fur angels. If you need help connecting with your beloved fur companion or family member book and session with me and we can honor the grief together.

Salem has already come to me in dreams, and now when I go on my walks, the butterflies are one of the ways I look for him to communicate with me. And that has already

happened!

And now I have a beautiful image in my heart of how I am walking forward.

Reggie, my Lyran guardian, is on my right. Salem is on my left. And together they are guiding me forward, reminding me to follow the path of my highest fun, joy, creativity, and love. If you don't know who Reggie is yet here is the Blog on him. https://www.jemaasoncire.com/single-post/post-slugpost/weekly-energy-update-a-message-from-an-unexpected-protector-and-guide

I love that image because grief doesn't have to become the place where our story stops. Although, it does feel like it stops in the moment. But, it becomes part of what opens the next part of the path. And this applies to so much more than physical death.

When we leave a relationship, change careers, move somewhere new, release an old behavior, or stop allowing an old pattern to control our choices, there can be grief even when we know the change is good for us.

We can miss what was and still move forward to what is next. We can appreciate the person we used to be without allowing that version of ourselves to continue making outdated decisions.

Maybe she stayed too long. Maybe she kept quiet. Maybe she reacted from old wounds. Maybe she kept repeating the same relationship dynamics. Maybe she accepted things that the version of herself today would never accept. But she survived. She learned. She loved. She experienced. And she brought us all the way here to this now with more love and understanding.

We don't need to erase our old selves. We can love them, thank them, and then continue walking.

That is what Salem's passing has shown me in a much deeper way. I don't want the love he gave me to make my world smaller because I miss him. I want his love to make my world bigger.

I want to laugh more. Create more. Love more. Notice more. Walk through the trees and watch for butterflies. Listen when a song unexpectedly begins playing. Follow what lights me up. And continue discovering how much joy and magic can exist alongside grief.

Maybe that is one of grief's greatest teachings?

We don't move on from love. We move forward with it.

So if you are grieving right now - an animal, a loved one, a relationship, a home, a career, a friendship, or even the version of yourself you are leaving behind, let yourself feel what needs to move through your heart.

And then keep walking. There may be something beautiful waiting farther down the path.

For me, I can already see it: Reggie on my right, Salem on my left, butterflies appearing along the trail, and all of us moving toward more joy, more creativity, more fun, and more love.

And whenever that song plays, I will smile and know exactly who helped me see more love and magic in this realm. Salem🐈‍⬛❤️

With love,

Jemaa🌺

Sweet Boy Salem
