Muscle Testing: Learning to Listen to Your Body's Energy

I want to share something I've found fascinating throughout my years of working with energy & muscle testing.

Our bodies are constantly communicating with us. We experience this through physical sensations, emotions, and those moments when something just doesn't feel right, even though we can't quite explain why.

Have you ever walked into a room and immediately felt uncomfortable? Or met someone and felt an instant sense of ease and familiarity? Our bodies respond to what we're experiencing all the time, before our conscious minds have had a chance to process it.

Muscle testing is one way people explore that connection between the body, mind, and intuition.

What Is Muscle Testing?

Muscle testing is a practice that involves observing changes in muscle resistance while introducing a question, statement, or physical stimulus.

Muscle testing, also known as applied kinesiology, was developed in the 1960s by chiropractor Dr. George Goodheart. The technique involves applying gentle pressure to specific muscles while a person resists, observing changes in muscle strength and response.

In alternative healing practices, muscle testing is used to explore how the body responds to physical, emotional, and chemical influences, including stress, certain foods, supplements, and even specific thoughts or beliefs.

In traditional applied kinesiology, you or a practitioner applies gentle pressure to a muscle. Like the arm. You will need a friend or practioner to help with this one. Hold your arm out in front of you while assessing its resistance with a yes or no question. You can also hold a suppliment and ask if it's the right one for you etc. you can also use the finger technique.

I first learned muscle testing years ago during my Theta Healing class, and it's been a helpful tool throughout my journey. I've used it to help me get grounded and find clarity when I'm having trouble making decisions or finding answers to certain questions. However, muscle testing isn't always accurate, so it's important to use your own discernment and intuition.

I find the relationship between our physical bodies, awareness, and intuition really exciting.

Understanding the Connection Between Emotions & Physical Health

Our emotional experiences can have a significant influence on how we feel physically, especially when dealing with ongoing stress or chronic pain.

Muscle testing is used to explore how the body responds to specific thoughts, emotions, or situations. By observing these responses, you or a practitioner may identify emotional stressors that could be contributing to physical discomfort.

Understanding this connection between the mind and body can help bring greater awareness to emotional patterns and encourage practices that support stress management and healing.

Supporting a Holistic Approach to Healing

One of the reasons muscle testing is used in alternative therapies is its approach to looking at several factors that may be influencing a person's health.

Rather than focusing only on physical symptoms, you or a practitioner can explore muscular imbalances, nutritional needs, and emotional stress together.

This broader perspective can help guide a more individualized approach to pain management and long-term wellness.

Your Body, Your Subconscious Mind & Your Intuition

One of the things I teach in my work is learning to recognize the difference between fear, old programming, and our own inner guidance.

Many of us might have spent years looking outside ourselves for answers, forgetting to pay attention to what we're experiencing within.

Our beliefs, emotional experiences, and past conditioning can influence how we respond physically. Sometimes we tighten our shoulders, hold our breath, or feel tension in our stomach without even realizing it.

Becoming aware of these responses can help us understand ourselves on a deeper level.

The more we understand our own patterns, the better we can distinguish an intuitive impression from a response shaped by fear, habit, or expectation. And that's where muscle testing can give us guidance.

A Simple Practice: The Body Sway

One technique you can explore is often called the body sway method.

Find a quiet space where you feel comfortable and can stand safely. Keep your knees relaxed and your feet planted on the ground.

Take a few slow breaths and allow your body to settle.

Begin by making a statement "yes" and you notice your body sway forward. Then say "no" and your body should sway back. If it stays still you may need to hydrate yourself or place you hands on your kidneys to stimulate them. And then repeat the process. And when you get these "yes" and "no" responses you can then ask your questions you are wanting clarity on. Obviously ask "yes" or "no" questions you want answers for.

Learning to Trust Yourself

For me, developing intuition has always been connected with self-awareness, inner healing, and learning to recognize the energy we're holding. And completely trust the information that comes through in meditations or with guides/higher self and team.

When we carry old fears, ancestral patterns, or limiting beliefs, they can influence the way we interpret our experiences.

This is why awareness of our energy is such an important part of our spiritual journey.

We can explore different practices too, including muscle testing, meditation, breathwork, using a pendulum or Tarot/Oracle cards, without handing over our decision-making to any one technique.

Your connection with your Higher Self is something you can continue developing through experience, reflection, and learning to recognize your own inner patterns.

And remember, not every sensation needs to have a spiritual meaning. Sometimes our bodies are communicating something very practical, like stress, fatigue, or the need for rest.

Bringing It Into Your Everyday Life

Over the coming week, have fun practicing muscle testing and exploring how your body responds throughout your day.

Pay attention to what happens when you're excited about something, when you're worried, or when you're faced with a decision. Practice muscle testing with different questions and situations, and notice how your body responds.

Are you holding tension? Does your breathing change? Do you feel relaxed or uncomfortable?

The more you practice muscle testing and become familiar with your own thoughts, emotions, and physical responses, the easier it becomes to recognize your patterns, strengthen your intuition, and make more conscious choices.

Bringing It All Together

Whether used on its own or alongside other therapies, muscle testing offers another way to explore the body's responses, develop greater awareness, and support overall wellness.

For those experiencing chronic pain or looking for alternative approaches to physical health, working with an experienced muscle testing practitioner may offer additional insights into the factors contributing to discomfort and possible ways to address them.

Have fun exploring muscle testing! It's a wonderful opportunity to become more aware of your body's responses, strengthen your intuition, and discover more about your connection with your own energy.

With love,

Jemaa🌺
